Set a time for just 15 minutes. Once you’re ready, focus on one single space (this can be a drawer, a pantry, the refrigerator) and go through the items there. Knowing you only have to work for 15 minutes will help you push through, and you’ll find that these small spaces will often be cleaned in less than that!
2. Have Designated Bags for Decluttered Items
Before you go through a space in your home, get designated grocery bags to put your decluttered items in.
This can be a bag for donations, giving to a friend, or tossing in the trash. It might sound simple, but organizing the items you’re getting rid of will help the entire process go a lot smoother!
3. Purge Items You Don’t Use
If there’s an item in your home that’s taking up space, consider how much you actually use that item.
Ask yourself when the last time you used the item was, and if it’s been more than half a year, it’s time to let the item go. You don’t want precious space in your home is taken up by superfluous items, do you?
4. Organize as You Declutter
Going through that annoying “catch-all” drawer or purging the cabinets under the sink? Be sure to organize as you declutter items, as this will help keep things in designated spots that are easy to reach.

Try using bins, containers, and other items that can hold things. Organize your items in a way that makes sense to you, and if you’re feeling up to it, print out labels to paste onto the organizers!
5. Take Everything Out
Wherever you plan on tackling some home cleaning, take everything out! This means emptying that drawer or taking all of the toiletries out from under the sink in the bathroom.
This will help you see how much stuff you have, and the open space in the area will motivate you to get rid of more.
