You might have an idea of what needs to be done. But who do you even reach out to?

If you need a home contractor, then keep reading. We’ll show you the different types available, so you know who to call!

Home Contractor - The Different Types Available

General Contractors

General contractors are people who you put in charge of your home improvement project. They’ll take care of hiring everyone else to transform your house. This means that subtractors will be working on your home.

The advantage of this is that you won’t have to vet contractors on your own. But this is a double-edged sword since you’ll have to put your full confidence in the general contractor and trust that they’ll hire quality workers.

Carpenters

Carpenters are contractors that work mainly with wood. So if you need a new door, floor, wooden furnishings, they can usually get the job done for you.

Considering that your home’s frame is made of wood, this does mean carpenters can work on your roof, but only the wooden bit. For anything else, you’ll need a roofing contractor.

If your shingles are worse for wear or you have a leak in your roof, then you’ll need to hire a roofing contractor. They differ from carpenters in that they focus solely on your roof and everything that has to do with it, such as the gutters, siding, and flashing.

Not only can they inspect and repair your roof, but these contractors can also install new ones if needed. Materials they work with include asphalt, slate, and metal.

Electricians

For anything electrical, don’t try to do it yourself. Even if it seems like a simple rewiring, it’s best to leave it to the professionals.

They have years of experience and training that you don’t, so a blatant error might not be so obvious to you. And you might pay for that small mistake in the future, whether that’s just something as small as electric signals not working or as big as a house fire.

Painters

If your home needs a quick facelift, getting it repainted is a great idea! While you can tackle this job yourself, it’s time-consuming, especially since you’ll need to wait the right amount of time in between coats of paint.

Not to mention, if your technique isn’t so great, it’ll definitely show in the final product. Do yourself a favor and hire a professional so they can get the job done right on the first try.
